EXECUTIVE PROFILE

Academic and board-certified general, bariatric and foregut surgeon with more than 20 years of clinical experience specializing in minimally invasive, robotic, bariatric, foregut, revisional and complex abdominal surgery.

Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine with extensive expertise in obesity medicine, multidisciplinary bariatric program development, GERD management, robotic surgery and evidence-based surgical care.

Performed more than 1,000 bariatric and more than 1,000 robotic-assisted surgical procedures. Currently leading the development of integrated obesity medicine, bariatric surgery and foregut pathways at Northport VA while also serving as an Independent Physician Reviewer performing surgical utilization review and peer-to-peer medical reviews.

Northport VA Bariatric & Medical Weight Management Clinic development and early operationalization.
Standardized internal referral pathway for bariatric surgery, obesity medicine and medical weight management.
Lean Yellow Belt quality improvement project focused on access, internal referral workflow and reduction of avoidable Community Care
bariatric referrals.
Integration of Surgery, Primary Care, MOVE!, Clinical Pharmacy, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology and Community Care into a
coordinated obesity treatment model.
Development of clinical pathway for GERD/foregut evaluation including endoscopy, Bravo pH testing and esophageal manometry.
Provider education for primary care teams on bariatric referral criteria, MOVE! requirements and obesity treatment options.
Collaboration with clinical pharmacy regarding GLP-1 therapy integration, medication access and longitudinal obesity management.
Utilization-focused surgical decision making emphasizing appropriate internal evaluation before external referral when clinically
appropriate.
